Our SUPPORT #LDNindieFILM campaign celebrates the old-fashioned joys of doing things in the dark with strangers. This is particularly important as London’s indie film venues, events and exhibitors are facing a very real economic crisis. Without continued audience support, we run the risk of losing much-loved places that bring London to life every time they plunge us into darkness.

We asked some of our regular monthly subscribers & donors how we could keep the spotlight shining on London’s struggling venues and events (on the principle that we don’t have much but we can still do something…!). They chose to contribute prizes to reward our readers for submitting #LDNindieFILM Love Stories. This becomes our RADIANT CIRCUS way of helping you stay home / stay safe by giving you something fun to do indoors… So, here we go!

COMPETITION // VENUES

<< !!COMPETITION NOW CLOSED!! >>

Our first (ever!) competition gives you the chance to win a brand new copy of Jane Giles’ book Scala Cinema 1978 – 1993* (RRP £75 donated by one of our regular supporters). It’s a mind-blowing, coffee table shattering tome about London’s legendary lost indie venue, renowned for its “alchemical” programming. [RADIANT CIRCUS saw the author and former Scala programmer talk about her book before screening THE EATING DRINKING SHITTING & PISSING FILM (d. Kurt Kren, 1967) from 16mm at The Horse Hospital, which was an underground evening we will never forget.**]

>> TO ENTER/WIN: Write/draw/sing! your #LDNindieFILM Love Story about your favourite London indie film VENUE and submit using THIS FORM by 23:59 16 APR 2020. The story that makes us swoon the most, wins!

>> For this competition, tell us about your favourite London indie film venue (cinema, pop-up, rooftop, basement, dive bar, church). Write about why you love it, something great that happened there, thank the amazing crew, review the artisanal popcorn or research the history of the building. Words not your thing? Sketch an iconic facade, photograph your growing ticket stub collection, make an outfit out of old screening notes, sing!

Everybody wins!*** We’ll post as many Love Stories as we can at radiantcircus.com to keep the spotlight shining on London’s alternative cinema scene throughout the COVID-19 crisis. We also hope to publish the best bits in a Love #LDNindieFILM Zine as a permanent reminder of how we all got together to celebrate London’s alternative cinemas. Everyone who submits a #LDNindieFILM Love Story that complies with our submission guidelines will get a free copy of the zine (if you want one!).

The rules are simple! Send us your #LDNindieFILM Love Story on the requested theme by the deadline. All submissions must comply with our T&Cs on the submission form. Follow us @radiantcircus too. One submission per reader per week. We decide which Love Story makes us swoon the most. We award one prize. Our decisions are final. No cash alternatives. No arguing. Prizes must be claimed within 24hrs. We will need the winner’s address to post physical prizes (mainland UK only).

*Basic edition.

**This competition is not connected with or authorised by Jane Giles or FAB Press. It’s just something nice we thought we’d do.

*** You submission must be about a London film venue, tribe or an event. Don’t just send us any old article you’ve had sitting around about your favourite film/star/DVD collection…

And that’s the meat of it…

Show your support for London’s alternative film scene by submitting your own #LDNindieFILM Love Story.

You can also browse our London Venue A to Z to find out how you can support your favourite indie cinema directly.
