IT’S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY
May 16 @ 19:45 - 22:00
IT’S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY at Screen25 (16 MAY 19:45):
Join us during Mental Health Awareness Week for a special screening of IT’S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY, in partnership with Off The Record and Young People Insight (YPI).
Poignant and life-affirming, this 2010 hit comedy confronts preconceptions about mental health and explores the reality of depression through the eyes of a 16-year-old.
Craig Gilner (Keir Gilchrist) is a clinically depressed teenager facing ongoing pressures from his school, friends and family. After seeking help at his local hospital, Craig is checked into the adult psychiatric ward, since the teenage ward is undergoing renovations. Firstly unconvinced whether to stay, he soon makes friends, especially with adult patient Bobby (Zach Galifianakis) and punky teenager Noelle (Emma Roberts), who will help him to understand himself and cope with his problems.
Our film programme will kick off at 7.30pm with BEHIND THE LOCKED DOOR, a short documentary produced by Brent Mind, about mental health in the black community. Join us after the main feature for a relaxed group discussion about the issues raised in the films, hosted by mental health professionals from Off The Record and YPI.
