MIDNIGHT EXCESS: SUMMER SOLSTICE DOUBLE BILL
June 22 @ 23:00 - 03:30
SUPAKINO x BLACK DECAGON present MIDNIGHT EXCESS: SUMMER SOLSTICE DOUBLE BILL at Rio Cinema (22 JUN 23:00+):
MIDNIGHT EXCESS is a film programme from SUPAKINO that brings back the thrill of late night movies and subversive double features to London’s alternative cinema scene.
After the longest day of the year, come and join SUPAKINO and folk horror film duo BLACK DECAGON for a night of ancient stone circles with a double-bill of BBC Ghost Story STIGMA (1977) and British cult classic PSYCHOMANIA (1973).
Tom Oldham and Nathaniel Metcalfe will be chatting with Ranjit S. Ruprai about stone circles and showing their favourite clips from British cinema/TV in between the films. More guests and goodies to be announced.
STIGMA (1977) d. Lawrence Gordon Clark
A young couple move into a remote country house near an ancient stone circle. They employ workmen who disturb an ancient standing stone in their garden. Expect a tale of strange supernatural forces and plenty of blood.
PSYCHOMANIA (1973) d. Don Sharp
Upon discovering a dark family secret, Tom Latham (Nicky Henson), the leader of hell-raising teen motorcycle gang “The Living Dead”, decides to take drastic measures to ensure his gang’s superiority.
Packed with gothic tropes, black humour and eccentric performances (including George Sanders’ final screen role), Psychomania is a cult horror classic brimming with exciting action and fantastical mayhem.
Expect devil-worship, seances, a mysterious locked room, magical toads and leather-clad bikers weaving between the stones of a misty ancient circle.
