South Social Film Festival is collaborating with Instituto Cervantes to celebrate Spain (SAT 08 JUN 2019) at Moving Pictures Cinema in the spectacular food hall and street food market, Mercato Metropolitano, Elephant & Castle.
Celebrating Spain’s rich film culture, the evening includes a film screening, flamenco dancing, tapas and discussion. The film is by talented filmmaker, Arantxa Echevarria: CARMEN Y LOLA (2018) explores genres and genders as it highlights the issues faced by the LGBTQ community in modern society.

CARMEN Y LOLA (2018)
The film follows Carmen who lives in a gypsy community in Madrid. She is destined to a life that repeats itself generation after generation, getting married and raising many children. Until she meets Lola, a gypsy who dreams about going to university. Their forbidden romance causes problems within their community and ultimately leads them to face rejection from their families.
Bringing us the sounds of Spain will be London-based musician Pablo Dominguez. Born in Cadiz to a musical family, Pablo delved into the world of Flamenco and Jazz from a young age. Joining him will be Noelia Valdés, a flamboyant and talented flamenco dancer.
South Social Film Festival will be providing an array of Spanish Tapas including traditional dishes such as Gambas Ai Ajillo, Patatas Bravas & Spanish Tortilla so you can immerse yourself in a night of cinema, sound and flavour!
