THANK YOU FOR THE RAIN + Q&A

January 20 @ 12:00 - 15:00

THANK YOU FOR THE RAIN

DIVEST HACKNEY presents: THANK YOU FOR THE RAIN + Q&A – Come see a powerful new documentary and support communities impacted by climate breakdown.

THANK YOU FOR THE RAIN follows Kisilu, a smallholder farmer in Kenya, over five years as he uses his camera to capture the life of his family, his village and the impacts of climate change. Following a storm that destroys his house, Kisilu starts building a community movement of farmers fighting the impacts of extreme weather and he takes this message of hope all the way to the UN Climate Talks, in Paris, COP21. Thank You for the Rain is a timely and provocative call for action on climate change.

By holding this film screening, Divest Hackney are happy to follow Kisilu’s call to ‘bring this film to communities around the world and strengthen the global climate justice movement…and share knowledge on how we can build climate resilient communities.’

Find more info about the film and Kisilu’s work HERE.

After the film, you’ll get the chance to participate in:

  • A very special phone Q+A session with Kisilu and Christina, his partner and fellow organizer.
  • A short panel session with local organizers working on climate and social justice in Hackney.

Funds raised will directly support communities impacted by climate change, including Kisilu’s ongoing organizing work in Kenya.

Divest Hackney was set up in 2015 by a group of Hackney residents who wanted to help tackle climate breakdown and change their community for the better. We organise actions, events, and meetings with councillors to lobby Hackney Council to stop investing in the fossil fuel companies which are wrecking our climate, and support solutions to climate change instead. We successfully achieved a pledge from the Council in March 2017 to divest 50% of their Pension Fund’s holdings in fossil fuels in the next six years: we now campaigning for them to “Divest the Rest”.
