Visionary Women: WARU
March 6 @ 19:45 - 22:00
Screen25 presents Visionary Women: WARU at Harris Academy South Norwood (06 MAR 19:45):
In celebration of Women’s History Month Screen25 is pleased to announce a season of film dedicated to sharing the stories, voices, struggles, and successes of women across the globe.
We bring you Screen25: Visionary Women, a series of screenings showcasing womanhood in all its glory on, and off, screen.
March’s Discovery film is a groundbreaking drama, directed by eight female Māori filmmakers. Waru (meaning eight in Māori) tells the story of a small New Zealand town coming to terms with the death of a child, as seen through eight separately directed vignettes.
Each vignette is a 10 minute short, shot in a single take, showing the perspective of various women in the community who are impacted by the child’s death.
Waru is a bold and authentic portrayal of child abuse, grief, guilt and redemption, as told through the inspiring and collaborative work of eight powerful female storytellers.
