Emerging Filmmakers Night (aka EFN) is a quarterly short film festival that showcases work from up-and-coming directors to an audience of fellow filmmakers, industry professionals and cinephiles. Every year, through 4 seasonal programmes, the directors are given the opportunity to present their films, get feedback from a panel of experts, interact live with the audience, and win awards and industry-related prizes.

Their events are curated by filmmaker Erifili Missiou and hosted by stand-up comedian Mike Sheer. Films are judged by a panel of experienced programmers and reviewers.

Following their successful journeys into the online realm during shutdown, EFN returns to in-venue screenings with a double Summer/Autumn edition that will be both streamed online and presented IRL at Genesis Cinema (27 SEP to 01 OCT).

For opening night, EFN has curated a programme of exquisite films Disability On Screen that includes films created by disabled filmmakers (27 SEP 18:25). Films include:

  • IT’S PERSONAL by Kyla Harris & Lou Macnamara (2021) 31’24
  • STRANGE SIGNS by Kateryna Pavlyuk (2021) 23’
  • LIKE SUNDAY by Ella Glendining (2018) 4’3
  • MY COMPLEX RELATIONSHIP WITH MY DISABILITY by Espen Johnson (2018) 7’17

The screening will be followed by a discussion about representation of disability in cinema and the current landscape of opportunities for disabled filmmakers. The panel includes activist Kyla Harris, BFI’s Press Reset Ella Glendining and Celestine Fraser.

All the films will be subtitled and the venue is fully accessible. The event will be recorded and will be made available online.

In addition to Disability On Screen, EFN Summer/Autumn edition brings you Non Competitive Screenings split between Fiction and Experimental works (28 SEP), Awards Night (29 SEP), and a bunch of industry workshops (30 SEP to 01 OCT).

EFN Summer/Autumn Edition 2021 screens online & at Genesis Cinema from 27 SEP to 01 OCT 2021 & is booking now.
