It’s February 1964, and a group of New Jersey teenagers travel to New York, hoping to catch a glimpse of The Beatles, who are to make their first American appearance on television, on that night’s Ed Sullivan Show. Every youth in the city seems to be caught up in Beatlemania and the group try every means possible to see the Fab Four, including attempts to sneak into their hotel, bribes to get into the TV studio and efforts to win tickets to the show.

The directorial debut from Robert Zemeckis (FORREST GUMP, BACK TO THE FUTURE, CAST AWAY) and the first film to hold Steven Spielberg’s name as a producer, I WANNA HOLD YOUR HAND is a fascinating piece of film and music history. Behind the camera, it’s the moment that two giants of Hollywood lay a stylistic blueprint for so much of their work together in gleeful, off-beat, creative fashion. Musically, it’s also a rare opportunity to hear a huge selection of Beatles’ songs on film, which would quickly become a costly soundtrack inclusion, in the loud and lovely setting of the iconic Prince Charles Cinema.
