As LGBT History Month draws near its end (scroll though our listings or search LGBTQ+ on our site if you haven’t streamed enough queer content yet…), International Women’s Day swings into view (08 MAR).

Champions of French culture, Institut Français (home of Ciné Lumière in London), has relaunched their global streaming platform, IF CINEMA À LA CARTE, in time for the occasion. The site gives you the chance to “discover the best of French cinema for free, to watch anytime, anywhere!” Well, not quite ‘anywhere’ as some titles are restricted by region, but for a free film offering it’s got a lot going for it.

It couldn’t be easier to get streaming: head to IF CINEMA À LA CARTE, pick your language of choice from the pull-down menu in the top right (we went for English as ‘Frenglish’ wasn’t an option…) and then choose your title which will show in a pop-up player. If you’re still baffled at that point, choose suitable ‘sous-titres’ from the cog on the bottom-right of the player window (we went for Anglais…but other languages are available).

At the time of posting, there are three FREE features online for International Women’s Day (until 10 MAR). Scroll down for the current programme. More films will be added soon for Francophone Month, the March-long celebration of French language and culture.

TOUT EST PARDONNÉ aka All Is Forgiven

d. Mia Hansen Løve, 2007/France

“A quietly captivating portrait of the reconciliation between an estranged father and his daughter, Mia Hansen-Løve’s feature debut already announces the tone of her later films such as THE FATHER OF MY CHILDREN, L’AVENIR and EDEN. TOUT EST PARDONNÉ displays her profound understanding of the subtlety of human relationships and the human condition in general.”

ANGÈLE ET TONY

d. Alix Delaporte, 2011/France

“Alix Delaporte’s impressive debut feature tells a beguiling and slow-moving story of a seemingly mismatched couple set in a remote Normandy fishing village. A heartwarming fairytale about the improbable encounter between two flawed individuals, Angèle (Clotilde Hesme), who has just moved into town, and disillusioned fisherman Tony (Grégory Gadebois).”

LE BEAU MONDE aka High Society

d. Julie Lopes-Curval, 2014/France

“An intimate account of an intense if inescapably flawed love affair between two youngsters from different social backgrounds. Alice is a small-town girl trying to make it in Paris. She soon meets the handsome Antoine (Bastien Bouillon), as she tries to make it into the fashion world with the help of Antoine’s mother Agnes (Aurelia Petit). With this encounter, she abandons her friends and her roots…”
