ARSENAL + LIVE SCORE by Grok at Genesis Cinema (02 DEC 18:25 – Free! / Booking recommended):

  • Grok will perform a live score to Alexander Dovzhenko’s ARSENAL (1929). A montage of images depicts the social upheaval in Russia following World War I leading to the Russian Revolution.

BANDE À PART + SALON by Nick Walker, Rochester Kino at Ciné Lumière (02 DEC 14:00):

  • Godard transposes an American B-movie-style film noir to the grey Parisian suburbs in his homage to Hollywood pulp fiction movies of the 1940s. Odile, a shy young girl falls in with two small-time crooks and is drawn into a plot to rob her aunt’s lodger.

THE IMAGE BOOK aka Le Livre d’image + Panel: A Short History of Jean-Luc Godard at Ciné Lumière (02 DEC 16:00):

  • Following his most recent full-length works, GOODBYE TO LANGUAGE, Jean-Luc Godard pushes his exploration of words, sounds and images to vivid new extremes in this complex, dizzying mosaic of film, essay and collage. This polyphonic discourse about the contemporary condition shows Godard, at 87, as intransigently and vitally confrontational as ever and won him a Special Palme d’Or in Cannes this year.

LFFF: LEEDS ANIMATION WORKSHOP AT 40! at Rio Cinema (02 DEC 15:30):

  • London Feminist Film Festival presents a one-off afternoon of feminist animation films by the amazing Leeds Animation Workshop, to celebrate their 40th birthday. SORRY TO BOTHER YOU + Skype Q&A with director Boots Riley at Curzon Soho (02 DEC 17:45):

  • Cash (Lakeith Stanfield) is a black call centre worker, who is asked to ‘sound white’ in order to drive sales. This brilliant absurdist film savages capitalism, low-paid labour and racism in a cutting, visually surprising trip that will leave you baffled, buoyed and bruised in equal parts.
