AFTER ’68 at The Whitechapel & Close-Up (12 MAY 13:00 & 20:00):

  • Regarded as a defining moment in the twentieth century, mark the 50 years since 1968 by exploring cultural expression in an age of crisis, through international artists’ films, documentaries, clips, 16mm works and much more alongside readings and discussion.
  • Part 1: THE ECONOMY OF RESISTANCE at The Whitechapel Gallery.
  • Part 2: THERE ARE THREE WAYS TO RESIST BUT THE ENEMY IS ONE at Close-Up.

MANSFIELD 66/67 + Q&A with directors P. David Ebersole & Todd Hughes at ICA (12 MAY 18:15):

  • Jayne Mansfield, an early Playboy Playmate, nightclub entertainer and singer, captivated audiences across the globe. Her mid-century rise to stardom drove her to drugs, alcohol, and a dubious affair with Anton LaVey, the charismatic leader of the Church of Satan. A fatal car crash in 1967 unleashed a litany of conspiracies. Was it a curse? Did the devil make her do it?

  • In 2010, Saudi Arabian writer and activist Hissa Hilal did something unimaginable – she starred in the Arab World’s biggest televised live poetry competition.
