FEATURED ATTRACTIONS

The summer seems like a time for slimming down a tad. We’re not embracing the full LOVE ISLAND beach body craziness you understand, but just breaking some of those hibernation habits. And so it feels with film. Whilst we love a blockbuster season as much as the next popcorn muncher, it feels like a time for smaller plates.

We love the continuing  BEBOP NEW YORK: BIRTH OF AMERICAN INDIE CINEMA season at Barbican, which pairs well with their new AFTER THE WAVE: YOUNG FRENCH CINEMA IN THE 1970S. Both capture the resonance of time and place in the production of distinctive film flavours. REVENGE sees Classic Cinema Club – Ealing settling into their new home and then there’s A NIGHT IN BERLIN at Deptford Cinema which resonates with the sound of a city. Pushing our metaphor to the max comes IN THE MOOD FOR FOOD at Ciné Lumière (28 JUN to 04 JUL), part of the Great Exhibition Road Festival (28 to 30 JUN) and the South Ken. venue’s annual Fête du Cinéma where all tickets are a bargain £5.

Our featured attraction of the month is TAIPEI STORIES at Close-Up Film Centre (01 to 30 JUN). As a tribute to a place – all the films feature the titular city – the season is also structured around the work of three distinctive directors. Our dedicated screen guide introduces you to their careers and remixes the programme to help you consume a little or a lot.
