Welcome to our weekly digest of films in London this week.

Birthdays are an important feature of our listings this week with the always generous Genesis Cinema offering £2.50 screenings for their 19th birthday (see seasons) and Close-Up mounting a handsome double bill for their 3rd (06 & 07). Then there’s William Friedkin’s adaptation of Harold Pinter’s THE BIRTHDAY PARTY in 35mm at BFI (08).

Elsewhere, UK Jewish Film and JW3 take on the rise of the boxsets with four serialised screenings of the latest “binge-worthy thriller”, YOUR HONOUR (various screenings, 08 to 16 JUL). Home viewing habits – along with the hot weather, football and tennis – might be behind several recent cancellations: check our daily posts for updates.

If all the summer sun is getting too much for you, try THE SHINING FORWARDS AND BACKWARDS at Rio Cinema (12)…

Finally, it’s LGBT+ Pride this weekend and we’ve spotted a number of celebratory screenings, including: THE HAPPY PRINCE (06 & 07), MR GAY SYRIA (06 JUL), CALL ME BY YOUR NAME (07), MOONLIGHT (07), MARIO (09), THE CELLULOID CLOSET (10) and 120 BPM (11). Our featured attraction of the week is THE WOUND (06 & 11) which helps conclude Pride Month at Cinè Lumière and reminds us that equality needs to be achieved everywhere, for everyone.
