Support #LDNindieFILM: UK Cinema Fund

If you’re still searching for ways to support independent film exhibition across cinemas & festivals (& we really hope you are!), streaming sensation & indie film distributor MUBI has launched a UK Cinema Fund to accept all your kind donations. Here’s everything you need to know.

MUBI has created a UK Cinema Fund to help support the exhibition sector across the UK impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The fund aims to raise £100,000 by 25 MAY. The total raised will be donated to the BFI FAN COVID-19 Resilience Fund, which was set up by the BFI and its UK-wide BFI Film Audience Network (FAN) to offer critical relief and business continuity to exhibitors across the UK. MUBI have kindly kickstarted the fund with £10,000 of their own cash.

The Mayor of London’s Culture at Risk Business Support Fund has already contributed £150,000 to the BFI FAN Covid-19 Resilience Fund to help up to 25 of London’s independent cinemas through the crisis. Local investments are being administered by Film Hub London. The deadline for all applications to receive BFI FAN Covid-19 Resilience Funds was 06 MAY 2020.

However, the MUBI fundraising campaign runs until 25 MAY 2020 and will help give indie film exhibitors a serious boost in these challenging times. Sheffield’s indie cinema the Showroom Workstation is helping MUBI manage the scheme and won’t be benefitting from the funds raised directly. Their CEO Ian Wild said:

“In these unprecedented circumstances it is heartening to see MUBI support the independent exhibition sector with this initiative. We hope that the fund reaches its target to help us provide more vital support through the BFI FAN Resilience Fund.”
