CHRISTIAN MARCLAY: THE CLOCK 24-HOUR SCREENING at Tate Modern (12 to 13 JAN – Last Chance!):

  • “Due to overwhelming demand, for one last time Tate Modern is keeping the free display of Christian Marclay’s THE CLOCK (2010) open outside of regular museum hours. You will be able to see the late night and early morning sections of the installation, which are not normally possible to view.”

AN ELEPHANT SITTING STILL at ICA (11 JAN 14:10):

  • An elephant that sits and ignores the world becomes an obsession for the protagonists of the late writer and filmmaker Hu Bo’s four-hour epic, for whom it represents the possibility of escape from the stagnation and violence of their daily lives.

WHITE BADGE at Birkbeck Cinema (12 JAN 10:30 – Free!):

  • Based on Ahn Jung-Hyo’s 1983 novel Of War and the Metropolis, reissued as The White War in 1993, WHITE BADGE is a gripping account of the lives of South Korean soldiers involved in the Vietnam War, and its impact on their lives.   • Deptford Cinema’s Film and Book Club starts the year with a successful collaboration between writer Amy Jump and director Ben Wheatley with their stylish adaptation of JG Ballard’s dystopian tale of social disintegration.

  • Following his Oscar-winning THE WHITE HELMETS, Orlando von Einsiedel turns his camera on his own family as they attempt to cope with a devastating loss.

HALE COUNTY THIS MORNING, THIS EVENING + Q&A with director RaMell Ross at BFI Southbank (15 JAN 18:15):

  • Photographer-turned-filmmaker RaMell Ross has crafted an innovative, impressionistic portrait of contemporary life in Hale County, Alabama, offering a new way of seeing and experiencing the heat and the hearts of people in the Black Belt region of the USA.

ON HER SHOULDERS + Q&A with director Alexandria Bombach at DocHouse (16 JAN 18:30):

  • Everything changed on the night of August 3rd 2014. Isis stormed Nadia Murad’s Yazidi community and killed 700 people. Nadia Murad eventually escaped and lived in a refugee camp until she came to Europe. As Nadia engages with the global media, she faces insensitive and personal questions about rape, while trying to address how people can help the surviving Yazidi community.
