One of our TOP 10 LONDON CINEMAS is buddying up with folks at Sheffield Doc/Fest to bring you a weekend of cutting edge documentary film and director Q&As. Fresh from this year’s annual international documentary festival, DOC/FEST PRESENTS features 6 new films over 3 story-filled days*.
If you haven’t been before, DocHouse resides in Curzon Bloomsbury − one of our favourite subterranean cinemas − and is home to excellent docs throughout the year. We have a particular fondness for their ‘£5 before 5’ ticketing (MON−THURS) and DocHouse Firsts, a programme dedicated to blazing docs without a UK distribution deal. If you like factual cinema, there is no better place in London to shelter from the storm.
Similarly, if your knowledge of ‘the north’ stretches no further than ArtHouse Crouch End, Sheffield Doc/Fest is, in their own words, “one of the world’s leading, and the UK’s premier documentary festival, celebrating the art and business of documentary”. They do great things to promote documentary films and filmmakers, hosting a market place and talent development activities alongside their signature screenings. Dates have already been announced for next year (7 to 12 JUNE 2018) and passes are available online now – how’s that for organised?
Getting back to London, opening night extravaganza is BRIMSTONE & GLORY (4 AUG 18:30) set in Tultepec “a town in Mexico made famous for just one thing: fireworks”. This must see on the big screen doc is followed by A RIVER BELOW (5 AUG 15:30) − dedicated to the not as camp as it sounds pink river dolphin − GHOST HUNTING + Dir. Q&A (5 AUG 18:00), MOTHERLAND + Dir. Q&A (5 AUG 20:30), TROPHY (6 AUG 15:30) and closing night festivities, STEP (6 AUG 18:00):
