NOW STREAMING: from Rich Mix (29 JAN+)

Stream something wonderful (& make sure a % of your rental fee goes directly to London’s indie cinema venues).

There are many ways to support your favourite indie screen venue during shutdown (whilst also having a good time!). One of our favourites is to step aside from our usual streaming subscriptions to stream something that genuinely gives money back to the venues we’re all currently excluded from.

With various distributors backing various indie venues, you can often pick which cinema your rental ‘ticket’ contributes to when booking directly from their streaming platforms. However, in a series of posts we’ll be trying to rekindle that momentarily ‘lost’ experience of travelling across London to sample different venues’ wares (one of our favourite things about covering the cinema scene rather than just the films).

Prices and viewing periods vary (depending upon the platform, but usually 48hrs), but the programme variety is always fresh and the reward of giving something back to shuttered venues enhances the overall experience.

We start with East End venue, Rich Mix.

Rich Mix is partnering with, amongst others, legendary doc distributors Dogwoof and female-led distribution company Modern Films to bring you their streaming programme. Scroll on for what’s streaming this week including a double bill of films by Zeina Durra, and new arrival, Ryan White’s ASSASSINS (from 29 JAN 2021).

ASSASSINS

d. Ryan White, 2020

“In 2017, Kim Jong-nam — the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un — was assassinated in the bustling departures hall of Malaysia’s international airport. Two women, seen on CCTV rubbing a mysterious liquid into his eyes, were convicted of the crime. But were they trained killers, or simply pawns?”

LUXOR

d. Zeina Durra, 2020

“When British aid worker Hana (Andrea Riseborough) returns to the ancient city of Luxor, she comes across Sultan (Karim Saleh), a talented archeologist and former lover.
