Featured attraction: THE PRODUCERS: 50TH ANNIVERSARY RESTORATION at ArtHouse Church End (05 AUG 15:40 – Other venues / times available – check listings below): “Like a parody of Brexit Britain, never has the 1967 comedy been more horribly pertinent than it is now.” – Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian.
FILMS IN LONDON TODAY
SINGLE-O EXHIBITS
CARRY GREENHAM HOME + INTRO by Selina Robertson at JW3 (05 AUG 16:10):
- A rare screening of this doc, filmed during the Greenham Common feminist protests in the early 1980s. Its depiction of the courage, creativity and humour of the Greenham women contrasted greatly at the time with mainstream media portraits, giving greater insight into their motivations, and remains a seminal work of British feminism on film.
THE PRODUCERS: 50TH ANNIVERSARY RESTORATION at ArtHouse Church End (05 AUG 15:40):
- Mel Brooks’ outrageous comedy classic will be returning to cinemas nationwide for one day only following a glorious 4K restoration to mark the film’s 50th anniversary. The Oscar-winning feature will also include a very special Mel Brooks introduction from Turner Classic Movies.
- Also at JW3 (05 AUG 14:00), Phoenix Cinema (17:00), Rich Mix (05 AUG 14:45) and Rio Cinema (05 AUG 16:15).
SLEEP HAS HER HOUSE at Deptford Cinema (05 AUG 18:30):
- If a tree falls? Lightning illuminates a pine forest, horses wait in the darkness, an owl watches. Shapes shift in a woodland clearing, lit by the bluish hue of the moon. This could be an X-Files crime scene, or the forest that lives while Twin Peaks sleeps. Painterly visions of fantastic beauty capture a disorientating sense of the unreal.

GRIND SHOWS
EL MAR LA MAR at ICA (05 AUG 14:10 & 18:30):
- Influenced by the Sensory Ethnography Lab’s advocacy of innovative combinations of aesthetics and ethnography, EL MAR LA MAR sits between experimental anthropological essay and imagistic film poem. The 16mm footage deliberately overwhelms with open space, massive skies and landscapes shimmering in deathly heat.
PUNK VOYAGE at DocHouse (05 AUG 20:30):
- This invigorating new documentary follows Finnish Punk rock band Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät (PKN) as they face the glory and struggle that comes with fame. After becoming celebrities in Finland, the radical four continue to dominate worldwide, playing nearly 300 gigs in 16 countries.
SICILIAN GHOST STORY at ArtHouse Couch End (05 AUG 13:00 & 20:35):
- Set in a little Sicilian village at the edge of a forest, this is the story of adolescent innocence and painful reality. Giuseppe (Fernandez) is the son of a man with mafia connections who has turned informer. One day, this 13 year-old boy vanishes, kidnapped by those his father crossed. Luna (Jedlikowska), his classmate who loves him, refuses to accept his mysterious disappearance.
