The 35th BFI Flare LGBTIQ+ film festival will be presented online from 17 to 28 MAR 2021, with feature films and shorts to be premiered and enjoyed at home (in the comfort of your leisurewear…) on the BFI Player.

Following the cancellation of last year’s event at the start of the pandemic, this year’s shutdown-induced format will give “audiences across the UK a chance to enjoy a dynamic and thought-provoking programme of the best new LGBTIQ+ cinema from around the world.” Michael Blyth, Senior Programmer for BFI Flare, continued:

”Over this past year, the need to build and support LGBTIQ+ communities has felt more vital than ever, and this edition of the festival is an opportunity to bring more people together than ever before.”

Over the 12 days of the festival, audiences can watch approximately 25 feature films and up to 35 short films on BFI Player at any time – with closed captioning and audio description available for English-language films, as well as introductions and Q&As. Each film will be available for ticket holders to watch at any time during the 12 days of the festival, with a 4-hour window to start and finish the film.

Audiences worldwide can also tune in to free BFI Flare Screen Talks as well as Five Films for Freedom, presented in partnership with The British Council on their YouTube channel and on BFI Player.

Further details will be revealed in the coming weeks and the full programme for this year’s BFI Flare will be announced at a free online launch event on TUE 23 FFEB 2021. All the details are below.
