South Norwood’s independent cinema Screen25 Cinema has added two new films to their On Demand service (streaming now!).

The first is Horace Ové’s 1986 comedy PLAYING AWAY which streams in collaboration with The Twelve30 Collective, an independent film curating initiative dedicated to the best of Caribbean film. We’ll let them introduce it:

“As a part of the “Third World Week”, the Sneddington Cricket team invite a Brixton-based team of West Indian heritage to play a friendly game on their Suffolk grounds. Horace Ové (PRESSURE, A HOLE IN BABYLON) drops his neo-realist style in favour of a zany comedy of manners that burrows into the British psyche… A well-loved, but rarely seen gem.”

The second film is LEGION and PEAKY BLINDERS director Tim Mielants’ 2020 feature PATRICK which streams with a short film. This time, Screen25 has the words:

“With warm lighting making the Flanders landscape look wholly inviting, broad comedy and psychological realism that lands somewhere between CARRY ON CAMPING and TAXI DRIVER, this hilarious, unique film is pinpoint accurate about human emotions.”

PLAYING AWAY and PATRICK are streaming now at Screen25 Cinema On Demand. Individual rentals are £5, or you can view the whole programme with a £15 All-Access Pass.

PLAYING AWAY d. Horace Ové, 1986 + Intro by The Twelve30 Collective

“One of the great British comedy films, PLAYING AWAY satirises racial tension through that most genteel of sports: Cricket.”

This is a screen shot from PATRICK which screens at Screen25 Cinema On Demand from 05 MAY 2021.

PATRICK d. Tim Mielents, 2020 + Short Film

“Set at a Belgian nudist campsite, one man’s quest to get his hammer back goes disastrously wrong with hilarious and mysterious results.”
