NOW STREAMING: Two new films + Q&As at Screen25 Cinema On Demand (until 05 MAY 2021)

South London’s alternative cinema scene is on the move, with both Screen25 and Deptford cinemas en route to new homes (via very different journeys).

As part of their strategy to keep projecting to their loyal audiences – and further afield with a bit of a wifi boost – Screen 25 has launched a Cinema On Demand service. The project is supported by the emergency screen culture funds made available to an industry in crisis. With two new films added every week and a total of ten releases planned until June 2021, you can either rent individual titles for £5 each or go all-in with a Full Access Pass for £15. Here’s what’s showing right now:

THE STORY OF LOVERS ROCK d. Menelik Shabazz, 2011 + Q&A with the director (until 05 MAY):

Legendary filmmaker Menelik Shabazz (BURNING AN ILLUSION) returns to London to tell the story of a defining musical genre. THE STORY OF LOVERS ROCK is an essay documentary that describes how Lovers Rock music defined a generation in the late 1970s and 1980s. The film is followed by a Q&A hosted by writer Rōgan Graham.

JUSTINE d. Jamie Patterson, 2021 + Cast & Crew Q&A (until 05 MAY):

A love story set against the backdrop of Brighton and tracked by a violent and puzzling tale of a young woman’s descent into self-destruction. With extreme psychological intimacy and two stunning central performances from Tallulah Haddon and Sophie Reid, JUSTINE showcases the best of what British cinema has to offer in 2021. The film will be followed by Q&A with the director and two lead actors hosted by film critic Orla Smith.

THE STORY OF LOVERS ROCK + JUSTINE are streaming now at Screen25 Cinema On Demand until 05 May 2021.
