PAT AND MIKE d. George Cukor, 1952 + Discussion of the screenplay by Garson Kanin & Ruth Gordon, presented by ‘Screenplay By’ at The Cinema Museum (02 FEB 19:30).
“Pat Pemberton (Katharine Hepburn) is a tennis superstar… but when her fiance is around, she loses her confidence. So she gets her new manager Mike Conovan (Spencer Tracy) to keep them apart for her own good.”
Hollywood power couple Garson Kanin and Ruth Gordon wrote PAT AND MIKE (directed by George Cukor) specifically for their Hollywood power couple best friends Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, and ended up with an Oscar nomination, their third overall. Gordon went on to win Best Supporting Actress for ROSEMARY’S BABY (1968), while Kanin continued to write screenplays and stage plays. PAT AND MIKE will be screened in their honour.” (Screenplay By)
Screenplay By is hosted by screenwriter, playwright and film blogger Carol Saint Martin and it focuses on the screenwriters and storytellers behind some of the greatest films ever made and their stories.
