TOKYO FIST d. Shinya Tsukamoto, 1995 presented by Cinema Rising at The Garden Cinema (26 JUL 20:15).
“Directed by Shinya Tsukamoto (the Tetsuo franchise, A Snake of June), Tokyo Fist follows Tsuda (played by Tsukamato) a meek insurance salesman whose drab life with his fiancee Hizuru (Kajori Fujii) is disrupted by the reappearance of Kojima (played by Tsukamoto’s brother), an old friend who is now a professional boxer. What follows is an increasingly deranged body horror spectacle, as both men’s insecurities drive them past breaking point. Meanwhile, Hizuru responds by inserting progressively large pieces of metal into her body.”
“A boxing movie only Tsukamato could have made, propelled by a pounding industrial score by Der Eisenrost, Tokyo Fist is an unhinged, gruesome deconstruction of the masculine psyche. Join us in The Garden Cinema bar before the screening for a curated playlist and a Sakura Knockout sake punch, specially designed to accompany this event.” (Cinema Rising)
