WITNESSING HISTORY: FILMS BY SERGEI LOZNITSA presented by Pushkin House at venues across London (02 to 10 JUN 2023).

Pushkin House presents a comprehensive programme celebrating the multifaceted oeuvre of Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa, including the two UK premieres of his latest films, THE NATURAL HISTORY OF DESTRUCTION (08 JUN) and THE KIEV TRIAL (10 JUN). On 9 June, there will be a public discussion at Pushkin House with Sergei Loznitsa, moderated by renowned film critic and writer Jonathan Romney, that will be dedicated to Loznitsa’s oeuvre, cultural background, artistic method and thoughts on the contemporary geopolitical context.

Loznitsa has established himself as one of Europe’s leading filmmakers, producing numerous award-winning documentaries and feature films over a twenty-five-year career. In his work, he dares to dispassionately consider the most painful pages of history without compromising the current social and political agenda.

Addressing various events of historical importance that have taken place over the past 100 years or are unfolding in the present day, Sergei Loznitsa experiments with various genres and art forms. This programme, which will take place in cinemas across London, is conceived to reflect the diversity of his artistic methods. In addition to the two UK premieres, the programme includes a fiction film (DONBASS, 04 JUN), a cinematic interview (MR. LANDSBERGIS, 03 JUN), an observational documentary (VICTORY DAY, 07 JUN) and a number of archival montage works (STATE FUNERAL, 02 JUN and BABI YAR. CONTEXT, 10 JUN).
