The Short List 3: Film As Therapy – short films about mental health + networking at The Cinema In The Power Station (13 FEB 20:00).
The third instalment of The Short List takes a look at the medium of film through the lens of mental health, its potential to heal through processing experiences both as viewer and as creator. At a time of year when happiness and love are expected as a given, The Short List presents a curated programme of 10 short films from up-and-coming film-makers that will take you through all forms of often stigmatised mental health.
“I’m so glad that this new initiative has been a success and we’ve been able to continue programming work from emerging film makers. We’re particularly proud of this volume’s theme as it’s one close to the hearts of many of the staff here. We can’t wait to share these experiences with audiences and hope to ignite some important discussions.”
Chris Swney, General Manager, The Cinema in the Power Station
The programme includes Saul Abraham’s ENJOY – a slick portrayal starring Himish Patel as a tutor trying to halt his spiralling depression – and Gunjan Mukherjee’s HE WAS THINKING OF ENDING THINGS, a gritty and personal exploration of the filmmakers’ personal mental health struggle filmed over the course of five years.
The chosen films will be screened in The Arches followed by drinks and a chance meet the creators at the bar afterwards. Tickets are £5 and are booking now.
