Pink Palace: BAD GIRLS GO TO HELL d. Doris Wishman, 1965 + Intro by writer & sexplotation enthusiast Molly Miles in the Rio Cinema Basement Bar (03 AUG 19:30).
“Pink Palace, a weekly queer film club, presents cult director Doris Wishman’s legendary sexplotation BAD GIRLS GO TO HELL, screening for the first time at The Rio since May 1970!
Bored housewife Meg’s life changes after she kills the man who assaulted her and runs away to New York City. There, she has several sexual encounters all while on the run from the police, up until the films shocking twist ending. Wishman blends dreams and reality together, to create a masterfully surreal low-budget insight into the sexuality of one woman. Rarely screened in the UK, this is a unique opportunity to watch sexplotation with a crowd of others, and in a cinema which used to screen nothing but filth!
Will Meg’s past catch up with her? Why does John Waters herald Doris Wishman as his favorite director? Just how many men can Meg have sex with until New York City runs dry? What do you mean The Rio used to screen porn?! These questions, and much, much more, will all be answered on August 3rd in The Rio’s basement bar – itself a former 80’s video lounge for the Womens Media Resouce Project.
The film will be introduced by writer and sexplotation enthusiast Molly Miles. There will be zines, badges and other treats available free to all attendees.” (Rio Cinema)
